How Much Fitness is Enough?

How Much Fitness is Enough?

(Hint: You don’t need to be drastic to look fantastic.)

The gym industry has an obsession with ‘quick fix’ fitness.

Every new fad promises results in 6 weeks, and uses completely unsustainable ‘all or nothing’ methods to get you there.

At Improve, our approach is uniquely designed to fit around the lives of busy professionals.

Cutting-edge programming focused on the most efficient methods means you don’t need to be drastic to look fantastic.

Read on to hear from our expert coach Lewis’ answer to your FAQ: ‘How much fitness is enough?’

‘Fit’ is from the Scandinavian word for ‘knit’.

Being fit, therefore, means being well knit; well put together.

Following that thread, ‘how much fitness is enough for you’ depends on the other fabrics of your life and how you weave them.

Let me explain.

You have fitness goals but at the same time you need to manage other fabrics.

Work stress on your shoulders, social swallies in your stomach and kids tying knots around your feet.

It’s unsurprising you feel you’re too busy to exercise.

But when you stitch together your other fabrics with a sustainable and enjoyable fitness plan, you sow a longer, healthier, and improved quality life for yourself.

Here is how to create that fitness plan: –

  • Focus on quality over quantity

Many gyms and PT’s focus on the ‘go hard or go home’ mantra.

Anyone with the ‘no days off’ mentality needs a kick in the crochet.

You don’t need to train every day to get results.

In fact, at Improve we truly believe that with high quality sessions (preferably with a good coach), you can get results in just 3x 50 minute sessions per week.

This leaves you time for all the other stuff, and means you can kill it in your speedos without sacrificing your social life.

  • Your worst week is the goal (the rest is icing)

Consistent exercise is your priority.

On a good week you might train four times, a bad week twice.

Make your goal twice and treat extra sessions as icing on the cake.

This is the route to building consistency and momentum, which snowballs over time to help you reach your long-term goals.

  • Use the dimmer switch method

Be flexible with your fitness.

It doesn’t have to be ‘all go’ when life is breezy and ‘hell no’ when it’s crazy.

Think of fitness as a dimmer switch and adjust the frequency, time and intensity around what’s going on in life.

  • Practice acceptance

You’re not perfect (nor are us coaches).

Sometimes you won’t reach what you feel is ‘enough’.

That’s okay, just accept it, get back on track next week and keep trying your best.

And make sure to keep it fun.

Fitness doesn’t need to be a chore, and we have deliberately built a solution for people who don’t like the gym.

So, how much fitness is enough?
